I've received this beautiful letter from Jean. Everytime I read it, I weep sweet tears. Thank you Jean!

Dear Jennifer:

I have received my stunning, stunning purple and swirled earrings from The Postcardian Competition! The Competition! That great thing you did which helped us all, and made us aware of The Ovarian Cancer Action Organization (http://www.ovarian.org.uk/index.asp). The softly etched and perfectly made beads by Laura Sparling are framed by you in sterling silver, as only you can frame them. They are beautiful! I am so lucky!
You create with a mindful heart and soul which makes sense of everything you set your hands to. If I could own all your pieces, I would have a giant treasure chest of glorious dreams, made into reality, by you!

The other pieces which I have from you are equally as fantastic and exquisitely fashioned. I am amazed every time I gaze at your work as it takes me on a journey of delight! There is always something new to see! How do you DO that? I think it is because your creativity truly does know no bounds. I am in awe of your wonderful way with beads, wire, sterling, other elements you choose to use...I am in awe of YOU!

You certainly do! I lOVE the fact that the hotel & the statue are monuments to Ol Bet, the first circus elephant. Mr Bailey must have adored her which comes as no surprise as they are such lovable creatures.

Tom & I have been plotting all these places on a map. He wants to visit all of them!

Tom & I have had such an interesting afternoon thanks to you. As a former History scholar, I've had the great privilege of sharing my knowledge of the War of Independence, the anti-slavery movement & the American Civil War with Tom. We've even discussed the events behind the Black Tom explosion.

There are few things more wonderful in the world that seeing a child enthused & excited by a subject and wanting to know more & more & more. Tom asked me so many questions & with the help of a few dates supplied by Wikipedia, Muma related the stories for nearly two hours.

We covered such subjects as the cracks on the Liberty Bell to Ellis Island, talked of Abe Lincoln & read the Declaration of Independence together. Tom wants to know what's gone wrong - why we no longer respect ourselves as citizens & why we treat other countries as if 'they were stupid children.'

A very memorable afternoon - thank you so much!

BTW, Horace Greenley was another Mr Cool!

All this plus a Judy Garland stamp AND Star Wars too! We are blessed!!

The Postcardian Quest!

Not too long to go now. Last week I sent emails to the bead artists that live on the top of the mountain. This week I'm on the trail of UK independant shops such as boutiques, hairdressers & beauticians. Please wish me luck - if I can persuade only one to join us, then it's better than none!

OVARIAN CANCER STRIKES WOMEN OF ALL AGES!

When I was 18, I knew a girl who eventually lost her ovaries, her womb & for a while, her hair. She lived & she's alive now. Her mother wouldn't accept the 'growing pains' diagnosis & she made a fuss.

Once again, please may I urge you to tell every woman in your life about the facts. Persuade them to spread the word too. The more women who know about this, the more likely it is that a life can be saved.

I'm kicking myself because I should have organised a Postcardian badge or button! Maybe next time?
