After producing a brood of a son & two daughters and having decided to turn my back on academe & tax law, once my babes were past the nappy stage, I decided to teach myself the craft of jewellery design. My brood had taught me to be a mother & I’ve always spent as much time I can drawing, making marks & designing, so I reasoned that my brain was possibly still open to new ideas. But WOW! Little did I realise that a whole new environment was there to be explored - the world of Wearable Art & all its satellite moons. So, some five years ago, thus began my pursuit of ‘the art of curiosity…‘
Being creative is an essential part of life for me. I’ve suffered from depression since the age of 16 - indeed I'm a diagnosed bipolar babe - and in my opinion, creative expression is as important in helping my condition as all my meds & any other therapies I have tried. Keeping a creative journal for example, helps me to understand myself & my bipolarity. The act of making marks channels stress into meaning. A sense of humour helps me too - there’s a large seam of irony in my being and Dorothy Parker is Queen!
